Fly Fishing

The fly fishing Belize has to offer is considered some of the best in the world. Fly fishing is a method of fishing utilizing an artificial fly to lure the catch using a fly rod, reel and weighted line, and it requires a technique different to any other method of fishing.

The fly fishing in Belize is excellent because of the some 200 miles of coastline flats available to you, although most of these have soft bottoms, so the majority of your fishing will be done from a boat. Some of the best Belize fly fishing spots in Belize include Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker, and Punta Gorda.

Tarpon fishing in Belize is so popular, that there’s even an island called Tarpon Caye! The coral atolls and mangrove islands are perfect for snagging Tarpon. Some of the best bonefishing Belize has to boast about can be found not too far from Tarpon Caye, in the shallow water flats of Dangriga. Belize bonefishing is a popular sport, and the only other people you’ll encounter on some of these islands will be other anglers and some friendly locals.

Deep Sea Fishing

This method of fishing (also referred to as offshore boat fishing, sport fishing, or big game fishing) starts at a depth of at least 30 metres, and opens up a whole new world in terms of the type and size of fish that you can catch compared to that of more shallow waters. Belize deep sea fishing is an incredible experience, and here’s why...

Whilst most people head to Belize for the fly fishing for which it is best known, the deep sea fishing Belize has to offer is largely underappreciated. In comparison to its neighbours such as Mexico and The Bahamas, the offshore fishing game in Belize is relatively unspoilt.

Once you go out past the reef, you can set your sights on catching some of the big game species such as Blackfin Tuna, Mahi Mahi, King Mackerel just to name a few. Belize deep sea fishing is an excellent experience and regardless of whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned angler, you’re bound to enjoy the abundance available to you in these Caribbean waters.
