There is no bad time to visit Belize. The weather is mild all year long with temperatures ranging between 60 to 97 degrees Fahrenheit. The trade winds provide a light breeze from the ocean year round.
The winter season (December thru April) is the most popular tourism season. Daytime winter temperatures average around 85 degrees and the water is still mild. Occasionally a wetsuit (3 mil) is used for snorkeling or diving, but not absolutely necessary.
Wedding and honeymoon guests prefer May, June, and September – the climate is beautiful, prices are lower, and flowers are at their best.
Families often choose to come in July and August while school is out. There are occasional rain showers this time of year but they are brief and often happen at night – leaving a sunny, fresh start to the day.
Tipping is customary in Belize and similar to North America – 10-20% is standard. Although any amount is welcome and as always, at your discretion.
Tranquility Bay Resort’s nightly rates include a 10% service charge. Bar service, meals, and tours do not include a gratuity.
Often guests choose to leave a general gratuity at the end of their stay and let our management divide it among the staff. If there is someone who provided exceptional service we’d love to know!
We recommend using US dollars – they are widely accepted throughout Belize although US coins are not. You’ll often receive change in Belize dollars. The Belize dollar is fixed to the American Dollar at a rate of 2BZD to 1USD.
Tranquility Bay Resort is 12 miles north of San Pedro Town. Our boats go to town based upon the schedule of guest arrivals and departures. We charge 10USD per person, one-way when our boats are going to town and try our best to accommodate our guests who wish to go into town. If our boat schedule does not fit your needs you can charter a captained boat to town during daylight hours based on availability. Another option is to take a tour to Hol Chan and Caye Caulker where they give you an hour in town on the return.
Check in is 2:00 P.M. and check out is 11:00 A.M. There is room for flexibility as long as it works with our boat schedule. It is also possible to check out early – just let us know your plans in advance.
If your arrival is late in the day our boat will still be able to meet you and transport you to the resort.
Please be aware, there is an airport departure tax of 39.25USD per person for international flights. These fees may be paid in cash or with a credit card.
If your stay is 5 nights or longer, our rates include a round-trip transfer (per cabana) between San Pedro and Tranquility Bay Resort. If your stay is less than 5 nights, we apply a round-trip transfer charge of 80USD per cabana.

Ambergris Caye is a very relaxed place. Casual and informal is the norm. At the resort, you may even feel overdressed wearing shoes.
Absolutely! Tranquility Bay Resort is a great place for a family vacation. There are no TVs in our cabanas which leaves plenty of time for island fun. Our beach leads into crystal clear waters and because the beach is protected by the reef the water is shallow and calm – perfect for kids. Our guides love introducing kids to their first snorkeling or fishing experience. Often our teenage guests take the opportunity to learn how to scuba dive or even get PADI certified during their stay.
It’s common to see a family enjoying a meal on the dock of our water top restaurant – parents at the table and kids practicing their catch and release fishing right from the dock. Family friendly traveling at its best.
English is the official language of Belize and the language spoken at our resort. On our island of Ambergris Caye you may also hear Garifuna, Creole, and Spanish spoken as well.
